Benjamin A. Youdelman, MD, is a Heart Surgeon and Aortic Surgeon with advanced training in Endovascular and Aortic Surgery. He completed a fellowship in Endovascular and Thoracic Aortic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia after completing his Cardiothoracic Surgery and General Surgery Training.
Dr. Youdelman is the Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery and the Co-Director of the Maimonides Aortic Center. He worked with the founders of the Aortic Warriors and has launched the East Coast Chapter of the Aortic Warriors to create grassroots awareness of Aortic Aneurysm, Aortic Dissection, Aortic Rupture, and the importance of getting yourself checked for Aortic Disease.
Dr. Youdelman and his team, along with the Aortic Warriors can support the patients, family, and friends. Whether an emergency operation or surveillance of a growing aneurysm, the diagnosis of aortic disease causes great anxiety, and having a group to turn to like the Aortic Warriors can make all the difference.
Dr. Youdelman has extensive experience across all aspects of cardiac surgery including on and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, mitral valve repair, and aortic valve replacement including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
His Aortic specialty practice includes aortic valve sparing techniques and complex reconstruction and repair of the aortic valve and the aorta. This includes open and endovascular aortic repair using the latest technology to repair aortic aneurysms and aortic dissection.
His special interest is in risk stratification of patients and families with aortic disease. The Aortic Registry at the Aortic Center of Maimonides Medical Center will maintain critical information about patients and families with aortic disease. They have increased risk for aortic problems and this information is used to determine the safest approach to the care of these complex patients.
Dr. Youdelman is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and The Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society. He currently serves on the Executive Council of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society since being President of The Eastern in 2013.
