Dr. Mech is a graduate of the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University of Chicago. He was Founder and Director of the Eating Disorders Program at the Menninger Clinic and has served on the Faculty of the Karl Menninger School of Mental Health Sciences. He is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and is a nationally recognized researcher and speaker who is highly regarded for his expertise across the life-span, holding certifications in child, adolescent, adult and addiction psychiatry. His roots in his community goes back over 25 years! He has conducted over 50 clinical trials over three decades and applies exciting and emerging scientific insights to the care of his patients. He enjoys training medical students and counseling students who spend part of their training at the clinic and educating his patients so as to return his patients' control of their health and wellness by taking an active role in their plans of treatment.

Dr. Mech takes an integrated, holistic approach to treating his patients. in his words: " the mind and body are "Echad" (one in Hebrew." He understands that in the field of neuropsychiatry, there is significant interplay between the body and the mind. He further adds: "People have an intuitive sense when something is not right. They seek help from a physician who makes the effort to understand what it takes ti help each person get better." His treatment integrates brain-based considerations and plans for a "Patient-Centered Approach." He carefully examines nutrition, assessment of vitamins and other neurotransmitter co-factors, hormone levels and genetic testing physical exercise and sleep hygiene and architecture in addition to medication treatment and dietary management of the underlying needs in order to support the brain and overall wellness throughout the life span. "Most people are not looking for a 'here's your Prozac. Good-bye' kind of approach!" He understands it often takes a "go-above-and-beyond the usual to advocate on a patient's behalf with an employer, school or even an insurance company. " Everyone is different! We are all unique creations that don't fit I to a 'one-size-fits-all package." So in the area of the mind and emotions, he advocates a mindfulness and cognitive restructuring approach working with therapists to help the individual learn to identify and appropriately express what they feel while directing what they allow themselves to think.

Dr. Mech and his wife Amy are active in their three children's school and their local congregation. He enjoys sharing his passion about the brain and life-long learning as well as ancient history, STEM curricula ( science, technology, engineering and mathematics) , healthy eating and ethnic cuisine, and cycling. He and his team look forward to serving you and your health needs.
