Following rigorous and lengthy training, thoracic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform complex surgeries on the chest, or thorax as it is sometimes called. Their focus is usually on the lungs, esophagus, and other areas of the chest, and may also include the heart. As such, Dr. Pruitt may see patients in Michigan for a wide range of surgeries, for example removing cancer causing tumors from the esophagus and chest wall, or even a lung transplant.
Cardiothoracic surgery is a highly specialized field of medicine that incorporates surgical procedures to treat diseases or trauma to the organs and structures of the chest – including the heart, lungs and esophagus. Dr. Pruitt may perform both minimally invasive or invasive procedures ranging from angioplasty to open heart surgery or transplant surgeries.
