As the medical director of the Vein Institute of Connecticut and a leading vein specialist in the state and across the country, Dr. Alex Afshar has developed a reputation for providing vein treatment procedures using state-of-the-art techniques to help patients lead better, healthier lives. Dr. Afshar is recognized nationally as an expert in the diagnosis, treatment and management of vascular disorders including varicose and spider veins and hemorrhoids.

At the Vein Institute of Connecticut, Dr. Afshar is dedicated to providing the safest, least invasive and most effective vascular procedures in a compassionate and friendly environment to help patients feel at ease throughout their treatments. As a top-ranking vein doctor, Dr. Afshar’s approach is based on a deep respect for the individual patient, and every treatment plan is developed to meet each patient’s unique medical needs and lifestyle.

Dr. Afshar completed his primary care residency at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons/The Stamford Hospital and has been an active participant in medical research with the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, investigating newer, safer methods for treating and preventing vein disease. To ensure the procedures he offers reflect the most recent advances in the treatment of vascular diseases, Dr. Afshar maintains professional memberships in the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Phlebology and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. As the married father of two, after hours he enjoys reading, gardening, wakeboarding and motocross activities, and he has a working knowledge of the Spanish language.
