I matriculated from medical school at Boston University, followed by a five year surgical residency at the Ochsner Clinic. During my surgical residency, I took two years off to spend in the thoracic and cardiovascular surgery research laboratory at the University of Virginia. Subsequently, I did my cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado. I stayed an extra year in Denver to do a fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery. I then came to Boston for my twelfth and final year of post-graduate training to serve as the chief resident in congenital cardiac surgery. I took my first job in pediatric cardiac surgery at the University of Utah and based at Primary Children’s Hospital. I was in practice there for five years when I was recruited to Boston Children’s Hospital. I have been at Boston Children’s Hospital since 2013 and am involved in all aspects of congenital heart surgery.
Pediatric surgeons are to children what general surgeons are to adults, performing a wide range of surgeries on the organs and structures of the abdomen. Because children are still maturing and growing, their surgical needs are much different from that of an adult. Dr. Kaza has been specifically trained to take these and other factors into account when planning for and performing pediatric surgeries.
Dr. Aditya Kaza is a cardiac surgeon that specializes in the surgical healing of cardiovascular and heart ailments. These could include ischemic, rheumatic, valvular, or congenital heart disease, endocarditis and atherosclerosis. Dr. Kaza may carry out types of procedures such as surgical implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, heart valve repair, heart transplant surgery, or coronary artery bypass.
