Available Professional UnderstandableAfter an unsuccessful bronchoscope by a former assoc. of Dr. Abbas to remove a dental cap from my life partner's right lung, Dr. Abbas thought it unlikely that he could remove it without surgery. However, Dr. Jamie Bessich at HUP's pulmonary intervention dept. was able to remove it easily with a flexible bronchoscope and a flower basket attachment.

Following rigorous and lengthy training, thoracic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform complex surgeries on the chest, or thorax as it is sometimes called. Their focus is usually on the lungs, esophagus, and other areas of the chest, and may also include the heart. As such, Dr. Abbas may see patients in Pennsylvania for a wide range of surgeries, for example removing cancer causing tumors from the esophagus and chest wall, or even a lung transplant.
