Dr. A. Tom Petropulos, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist and electrophysiologist with a passion for helping patients lead healthier lives. In fact, he’s board-certified in internal medicine, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular disease. His specific interests of study are in complex device management and laser lead extraction of failing and infected cardiac rhythm devices.
After completing his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago, he received his fellowship training in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, he was awarded a junior research fellowship from the Chicago Heart Association. Since entering private practice, he has published research on gender differences in heart rate and the QT interval and presented abstracts at national cardiology meetings.
He provides a comprehensive range of cardiac services to patients in Palos Heights and Oak Lawn, Illinois. Dr. Petropulos has successfully treated many patients who have multiple cardiac and heart rhythm disturbances including:

Following his graduation from Wilber Lake College, Dr. Petropulos continued his medical training at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Since then, he’s gained over 30 years of experience in cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Plus, his work has been published in several well-respected journals. He’s even been given the National Research Service Award.

Dr. Petropulos is a cardiologist in Oak Lawn, trained to deliver extensive treatment for the heart and cardiovascular system. Dr. Petropulos may see patients for symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pains or dizziness, among others. Heart conditions that may be diagnosed and remedied by a cardiologist may include arrhythmia, angina, heart aneurysms, heart failure, coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects and rheumatic heart disease, to name a few.
As a cardiac electrophysiologist in Oak Lawn, Dr. Petropulos specializes in the electrical processes of the heart. He may perform both invasive & non-invasive procedures to help record the electrical activity within the heart. Dr. Petropulos may also implant defibrillators and pacemakers or evaluate the results of abnormal electrocardiograms.
