The Differences Between ThermiSmooth Face & ThermiRase Wrinkle Treatments

Are you looking for a minimally invasive treatment to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles? ThermiSmooth Face and ThermiRase are excellent options for this purpose. But what is the difference between ThermiSmooth Face and ThermiRase.

ThermiSmooth® Face

ThermiSmooth Face is a minimally invasive FDA cleared skin tightening treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to contour and firm the skin. It improves the appearance of aging skin by heating the skin, in order to increase collagen production. The additional collagen boosts the strength of the skin, and improves its overall tone and texture.

ThermiSmooth skin rejuvenation treatment lifts, tightens, and smooths the skin, which makes it the ideal remedy for sagging skin and wrinkles. It is designed to rejuvenate the entire face, but is especially beneficial for smoothing the thin, delicate skin around the eyes and lips.

How it works

The cutting-edge RF technology is delivered to the skin via a specially designed thermistor-regulator handpiece which is moved gently across the skin. The handpiece heats the skin, and this causes the collagen fibers to contract, resulting in tighter skin.

Patients usually require a series of 2-6 treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart to achieve the best results with ThermiSmooth Face.

ThermiSmooth Face is equipped with an advanced temperature control feature for added patient comfort and safety. It regulates the temperature during the procedure, and allows the practitioner to adjust the amount of RF energy being delivered based on the needs of the patient’s skin.

Are you a good candidate?

If you have sagging facial skin, particularly around the eyes, cheeks, and neck, you may be a good candidate for ThermiSmooth Face.

ThermiRase®

ThermiRase is a minimally invasive FDA approved treatment for frown lines, forehead lines, and platysmal bands (bands in the neck). It works by targeting selected nerves in order to relax the muscles that cause the lines and bands to appear, and this eventually reduces their appearance.

Frown lines and deep wrinkles such as crow’s feet and forehead lines, are caused by the movement of the muscles under the skin. These dynamic wrinkles have traditionally been treated with botox cosmetic, but ThermiRase has also proven to be an effective remedy.

How it works

Prior to the start of the procedure the surgeon will use a nerve stimulator to help map out the nerves to be targeted. A local anesthetic is applied, and then a small laser probe is inserted below the surface of the skin, and delivers low level RF energy to the specific nerves that control the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles.

When the nerves are disabled, they can no longer send out signals to the muscles, so there is no muscle movement. As a result, the skin over the muscles gradually becomes smoother, reducing the appearance of frown lines and platysmal lines.

It typically only requires one ThermiRase treatment to achieve the desired outcome. The results are immediate, and can last anywhere from 12-18 months.

The differences between ThermiSmooth Face and ThermiRase

ThermiSmooth Face and ThermiRase are both a part of the ThermiRF system, but they work differently to achieve facial rejuvenation.

ThermiSmooth is designed to smooth facial wrinkles, specifically static wrinkles, such as those around the mouth. Static wrinkles are generally present without you forming facial expressions and occur because of the lack of collagen in the skin. Collagen is an important skin component that keeps the skin taut and supple, but levels decline as you age, and leads to sagging skin, and wrinkles. ThermiSmooth stimulates collagen formation, and that’s why it’s able to lift and tighten the skin.

ThermiRase on the other hand, targets dynamic facial wrinkles. These are wrinkles that form as a result of facial expressions such as frowning (frown lines), and squinting (crow’s feet). ThermiRase attacks these wrinkles by disabling the nerves. Since the nerves are no longer able to send out signals the muscles won’t contract, and the wrinkles gradually smooth out.
