The Difference Between Juvéderm® and Juvéderm Volbella®

JUVÉDERM® is a hugely popular collection of fillers by Allergan that are used throughout the world to rejuvenate and refresh the face.  The range of products includes the well-known Juvederm and the recently released Juvederm Volbella…but what’s the difference between Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella

Facial Aging

Changes in the face occur as a natural part of aging, but may also be due to other factors such as genetics and excess sun exposure. Typical signs of facial aging include wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and volume loss in the cheeks. This causes the cheeks to become flatter, and the skin in the midface to sag. Over time the lips also lose volume and become thinner. These changes can be treated using Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella.

Both Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella are gel based formulations comprised of a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural component of the skin that helps it remain soft and plump.  The depletion of HA over time contributes to the loss of volume in the skin.

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is used to correct volume loss in the lower half of the face. Juvederm fills in moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, and also augments the lips.  It is very beneficial for nasolabial folds, which are the lines that run from the side of the nose down to the mouth.

Juvederm facial rejuvenation is a simple in-office treatment that takes about 15 minutes to complete. A tiny needle is used to inject Juvederm into the area being targeted.

There is no downtime after treatment, so patients can resume normal activities immediately. However, there may be some bruising and swelling for a short time.

Juvederm Volbella is a temporary cosmetic filler that is FDA approved for lip augmentation, and can also be used to reduce lines around the mouth (perioral lines).

Juvederm Volbella has a high satisfaction rate, because in clinical studies carried out patients reported being very happy with their results up to 1 year after treatment. Volbella is the only dermal filler approved for lip augmentation that delivers such long lasting results.

Like Juvederm, Volbella is made using patented Vycross technology, which is a special technique of blending the hyaluronic acid. Vycross technology makes Volbella more efficient at lifting the skin, and increases the longevity of the results. It also makes Volbella smoother and more consistent, so that it can be easily injected.

Volbella produces results that look a lot more natural when compared to similar lip augmentation products. Its unique formulation results in the absorption of less water, so the results are not as exaggerated as is the case with other lip fillers. There is no downtime after treatment, so patients can get right back to their normal activities.

What’s the difference?

Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella are both HA fillers made by Allergan comparisons are often made. However, these gel based fillers are uniquely designed to treat different areas of the face. Treatment with Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella should therefore be tailored to address the aspects of facial aging, based on the individual needs of each patient.

If you are looking to achieve a subtle, natural looking lip enhancement, Juvederm Volbella is likely to be the best choice, because it is designed for treating the lips, and adds volume and natural contours. On the other hand, Juvederm is intended to restore volume in the midface.

The volumizing effects of Juvederm in the midface can last up to 2 years, while the results of Juvederm Volbella last for an average of 1 year.  The results look completely natural and are visible immediately.

If you want to get the best facial rejuvenation results choosing the right product is important, but you also need to select a skilled, experienced injector. Choose an injector that knows which product is best for rejuvenating the different regions of the face.
