Bio


A visiting professor with the University Hospital of Zurich in Switzerland, Dr. Val Runge previously served as the Robert and Alma Moreton Centennial Chair at the Texas A&M College of Medicine, Baylor Scott & White Health Care System, in Temple and the Rosenbaum Endowed Chair at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Stanford Medical School in Stanford, California, and completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He is listed amongst the top 20 alumni of the Stanford University School of Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Val Runge was included in the elite professional publication Who’s Who in the World. He received the Dyke Memorial Award from the American Society of Neuroradiology in 1984 for his early research, which demonstrated publicly for the first time the potential, as well as early diagnostic utility, of intravenous contrast media in MRI, specifically the gadolinium chelates. In 2011 he received the Harry Fisher Award from the Contrast Media Research Society, recognizing his outstanding research in the field of contrast media over many years. In addition to his career as a clinician and an educator, Dr. Val Runge is an experienced medical researcher and writer. He has published 16 clinical textbooks, with many translated into foreign languages, including German, Chinese, Polish and Turkish. These are focused on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), contrast media in MRI, and the field of neuroradiology. Dr. Runge’s research includes more than 200 published, peer reviewed articles that have appeared in leading medical journals including Radiology, Investigative Radiology, European Radiology, the American Journal of Neuroradiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology, Blood, and Circulation.
