Thomas J. Walker, M.D. is board-certified in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology and a fellowship-trained Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He is a member of the prestigious American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).
Dr. Walker is a leading rhinoplasty specialist in Georgia and the southeastern United States. Having acquired a unique set of skills under his fellowship mentor Dr. Dean Toriumi, a world-renowned rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Walker has the complete armamentarium to perform all ranges of rhinoplasty: primary rhinoplasty (noses that were never operated on before), ethnic and Asian rhinoplasty, revision (secondary) rhinoplasty, or complicated cases such as saddle nose deformities, cocaine noses, cleft lip nasal deformities, noses damaged by implants or fillers, and septal perforations. In fact, many patients turn to Dr. Walker following an unsuccessful prior rhinoplasty.
Dr. Walker uses the least invasive technique possible to maximize the long-term aesthetic and functional outcome. His goal is balance and harmony of the nose with the remainder of the face. If cartilage from inside the nose (septal cartilage) is either insufficient or no longer present for any of the aforementioned reasons, Dr. Walker is among the few surgeons in the country with the unique set of skills to harvest and use the patient’s own rib (costal) or ear (auricular) cartilage to reconstruct the nose.
In addition to nasal surgery, Dr. Walker specializes in the latest surgical and non-surgical procedures in facial and neck rejuvenation including endoscopic brow or forehead lifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), otoplasty (ear surgery), torn earlobe repair, neck lifts, mini-facelifts and facelifts, facial implants, chin augmentation, neck liposuction, fat transfer/injection, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, Botox, and dermal fillers such as Restylane or Juvéderm. He prioritizes a natural lookemploying the most minimally invasive techniques and skillfully concealing surgical incisions.
His reconstructive expertise includes excision and reconstruction of skin cancers and other skin lesions, MOHs reconstruction, scar revision, keloid treatment, and facial trauma repair (bony and soft tissue).
PATIENT CARE PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Walker’s focus on both aesthetic enhancement and reconstructive procedures underscores his belief that "form follows function" when performing plastic surgery of the face and nose. He believes in the importance of spending time with each patient in order to understand the patient’s goals and create an individualized treatment plan, taking into consideration the patient’s gender, age, ethnic background, stature, and most importantly, the patient’s functional and aesthetic preferences.
EDUCATION AND FELLOWSHIP
Dr. Walker obtained his undergraduate degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where he majored in Biology and graduated summa cum laude. Dr. Walker subsequently attended Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, where he was inducted into the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Medical Honor Society during his junior year, a privilege that’s reserved to only the top 5% of medical students. After graduating from medical school with high distinction, he completed a five-year Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency training program at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. He was appointed Chief Resident his final year of residency by his mentors and peers.
Dr. Walker was then chosen for one of the most sought after fellowship programs in the country in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (one of only about 45 nationwide) sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) at the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) with Dr. Dean Toriumi, one of the pioneers of modern rhinoplasty. While training in Chicago, Dr. Walker also served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Illinois where he taught and helped foster the Facial Plastic Surgery skills of the residents at UIC.
