Dr. Robert J. Winn firmly believes that every person should have easy and affordable access to quality healthcare. In the course of his tenure as a physician in Collingswood, Dr. Winn has seen the hardships that traditionally shunned or discarded populations such as drug addicts face when attempting to seek medical assistance. As a result of society's rejection, these patients rarely find the care they need; many only receive care sporadically and suffer from conditions that could have been prevented with earlier medical intervention. After witnessing this firsthand, Dr. Winn has made it his mission work with patients within these ignored brackets and encourage them to build habits for long-term disease prevention and health. For Dr. Winn, the most rewarding part of practicing as a family physician lies in helping patients overcome their obstacles and reach their personal health goals.
Dr. Robert J. Winn knew that he wanted to be a doctor even as an undergraduate in college. From 1987 to 1991, Dr. Winn studied neuroscience at Furman University in South Carolina. Upon graduating, he opted to continue his studies in the psychology field by enrolling in a Master of Science program at Villanova University, wherein he specialized in General/Experimental Psychology. Today, Dr. Robert J. Winn attributes his passion for helping those without easy access to care to his early academic years, and cites his love for psychology as a determining factor in his choice to become a family physician. That said, Dr. Winn did come to realize that he wanted a broader career than what a degree in psychology alone could provide him, so he enrolled in a doctoral program at Hahnemann University's School of Medicine.
Following his graduation from Hahnemann University in 1998, Dr. Robert J. Winn moved to Philadelphia and began a residency program at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Family Practice and Community medicine. It was during his residency that Dr. Winn began to realize the incredible importance that communication holds in a doctor-patient relationship. Sometimes, he found that it only took a conversation to encourage a patient onto a path towards better health. It was also during these years that Dr. Winn's passion for healthcare reform took root; for many of his patients, the largest obstacle to health lay in limited financial resources rather than unhealthy behaviors or significant health concerns. To this day, Dr. Robert J. Winn believes that health care should always be simple, easy, and affordable regardless of a patient's financial state.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Robert J. Winn has received a number of awards for his community leadership and medical care, including the 2016 Thomas Jefferson Community Award, the May 1998 Hahnemann University School of Medice Community Service Award, and a nomination for the 2003 Robert Wood Johnson Community Leadership Award.
Robert J Winn recently opened Real Wellness, LLC, a private family medicine practice in Collingswood, New Jersey. At Real Wellness, Winn’s mission is to treat the overall patient, and not just their ailment. The practice is patient-centered with appointments lasting at least 30 minutes so Dr. Winn can truly get to know every patient and understand their background. His focus on the patient is what makes him so successful as a doctor, at a time when many practices focus solely on seeing as many patients as possible.
