Meet Dr. Jason Rexroth

I'm Jason Rexroth. I'm the Pelvic Floor Specialist here at Crossing Rivers Health.

I've been doing this for 18 years.

I've done thousands of cases, upwards of six or eight thousand cases. I've seen it all, so if you think you have something that I never seen before I probably have seen it. So, that's a good thing.

It's one of the more rewarding things I do because we cure it 95%of the time so patients, it really can change their lives where they aren't able to do a lot of activities they want to do, they can't exercise, they can't jump on trampolines with their kids. We can cure that simply. The pelvic floor is the muscles and tendons that kind of support the pelvis. A circle of bones that make up the boney pelvis. The floor is the muscles that support the insides from falling out. They weaken with menopause, obesity weakens them, other things that weaken them are tobacco smoking, diabetes those things affect the way people heal and affects the strength of tissue. But the biggest risk factor is childbirth. So,prolapse is when the uterus or abdominal organs or pelvic organs drop down in the pelvis and incontinence is when you leak stool or urine.  13 to 20 million women have urinary incontinence so it's very, very common. Prolapse is also very common. Most women have children and that's the risk factor. So, a lot of times they may not have a lot of issues until they go through menopause and then they lose the estrogen support of the pelvis and then things weaken and things start to leak or they start to drop down more.

There's the two major types of incontinence are stress incontinence, which is leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, movements, things like that and then the other type that's really common is urge incontinence, which is the gotta go gotta go feeling. A lot of people have both. That's called mixed incontinence. So, those are just kind of the most common ones. A lot of women think it's normal. Just because it's common, doesn't mean it's normal.

For stress incontinence, it's typically treated with surgery and that's because it's due to the anatomical problem. It's due to that baby coming out or something that moved the urethra. It's an outpatient procedure. It takes about 10 minutes through one centimeter, very tiny tiny incision. We support that urethraand then they're able cough, sneeze, laugh, run, jump and not leak. So, it works really well for for that. So, that's the stress incontinence. For overactive bladder, it's typically medications. If medications aren't working, we have other options like Botox for the bladder or InterStim and we stimulate those nerves and that helps fix an overactive bladder. So, we've got a lot of options.

This is something that a lot of places can't handle and we're able to handle those problems here. This is, like I said, one of the most rewarding things you do because you can really change people's lives and fix them.
