Recommends Available On Time Friendly Professional Knowledgeable Nice Office Understandable Reachable Helpful StaffI went to Dr. Melamed with severe pain in my left buttock and all the way down my left leg. My surgeon in Bakersfield had pollitely (or not) told me I was too old to consider surgery., Fortunately my primary care physician disagreed and sent me to Dr. Melamed. One week later surgery was done and I have my life back.
Kyle was born with a caved-in chest, medically known as “pectus excavatum”. He underwent surgery to correct the deformity and at 16 had a significant growth spurt, which made him have a second surgery for his chest. Shortly after his second surgery, Kyle noticed a small curve in his spine and was diagnosed with scoliosis. After visiting several doctors, it was clear he had to undergo a spinal fusion surgery. Dr. Melamed took an MRI of Kyle’s spine for an accurate diagnostic and discovered his spine was tethered and did not migrate where it was supposed to. Kyle would have been paralyzed if he underwent spinal fusion first, without having a surgery to undo the tethering of his spinal cord.
Dr. Melamed explains the surgery for tethered spines. After the surgery, Kyle’s curvature still evolved from 60 degrees to 80 degrees and wearing braces for 18 hours each day did not seem to help. He was still against the idea of doing a fusion surgery, but after seeing his spine did not straighten after the tethering surgery, he went ahead and got a spinal fusion surgery. Kyle no longer experiences back pain and his scoliosis is completely gone.
