I went to a doctor about 43 years ago and told him about it because I wanted to know exactly what the problem was so I could learn to deal with it. I knew I had some kind of kidney problem. I just wanted to know pin it down. This doctor that I was asking for help told me that it was all in my head, that there was nothing wrong with me. The truth was that he didn't want to be bothered with me because he didn't see any money in treating me. A few years later my mom convinced me (and it took a lot of talking on her part) to see Dr. Barst. He sent me for an IVP and told me what the problem was. I have medullary sponge kidney. He told me to drink lots of water and I should be good for about 15 or 20 years. Well, it's been 35 years and I still have both kidneys.
