My fascination with the science behind cancer and the ability of oncologists to positively impact peoples lives drew me to surgical oncology. At Perlmutter Cancer Center, I treat people who have gastrointestinal cancer, pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, and bile duct cancer. I also care for people with less common types of cancers, such as retroperitoneal tumors, sarcomas, and adrenal tumors.Everyone here is driven by the ability to care for others, and we work as a team to ensure that patients experiences are as seamless as possible. They have direct contact with my colleagues and myself.Cancer has always been a complicated disease, often requiring treatment by many doctors of different specialties. When people come to see us for treatment, they may see oncologists, gastroenterologists, and radiation oncologists, in addition to other experts, who all weigh in on their care and help to develop a detailed treatment plan.We know that cancer care is not one-size-fits-all. We recognize how important it is to listen carefully to what each person says, analyze the problem from the perspective of our specialty, and then tailor treatment specifically to each person.Weve seen great advances in cancer care at NYU Langone. In terms of surgical technique, we are very focused on minimally invasive surgical approaches and robotic-assisted surgery. Technology within our Robotic Surgery Center aids us in using minimally invasive approaches for colorectal cancer,
