On July 20, 2017, This surgeon performed an illegal and wrong hip surgery on my elderly mother. After I learned of the wrong surgical procedure scheduled, while waiting in the family waiting area, I informed this surgeons Physican's Assistant, Surgical Staff Nurse taking care of my mother and the Manager in Atrium at Hospital of Special Surgery that wrong surgery is scheduled and would like to talk to Dr. Charles Cornell. I informed them that I do not wish my mother to have the wrong surgery and unnecessarily cut her hip muscles. Next, I noticed on the TV monitor that my mother got whisked away to for surgery to operating room. I contacted the Manager at the Atrium again, and asked that surgery not go forward until I speak to Dr. Cornel.. Then I went to the main lobby reception and asked that I need to speak to the patient advocate. The reception called upstairs, spoke to someone and gave me the same answer that all papers are signed and nothing can be done to stop the surgery. I was then told that nothing can be done as my mother already signed all the paperwork. But the problem is my mother does not understand English or what surgery she was supposed to go through. Will be contacting State Board of Medical Examiners in NY.

Recommends Available On Time Friendly Professional Knowledgeable Nice Office Understandable Reachable Helpful StaffDr. Cornell has performed two surgical procedures for me: a total knee replacement in 2008 and a total hip replacement in 2015. The surgery had no complications. I followed Dr. Cornell's recommendation for rehab and follow up and I am extremely pleased with the results. He gives leadership to a wonderful team at HSS. I highly recommend him for consideration by others.
