Dr. Alexander Kopp attended medical school in Zurich Switzerland, one of the premier medical schools in Europe. After graduating from medical school he trained in Internal medicine in Switzerland. Following completion of his Internal Medicine training at the University Hospital in Zurich Dr. Kopp came to Boston to carry out Basic Science research in Neuro-Science at Harvard Medical School. After recertifying the medical degree in the United States Dr. Kopp completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School and subsequently completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Since December of 2000 till present Dr. Kopp is member of the active medical staff at Newton Wellesley Hospital where he practices Gastroenterology-Hepatology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Kopp is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians, and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is on staff at Newton Wellesley Hospital and Metro West Medical Center in Natick. His areas of special interest include general gastroenterology and hepatology and in particular, gastroesophageal reflux disease and Barrett’s Esophagus, colon and gastrointestinal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. In his spare time, Dr. Kopp enjoys classical music, playing violin and viola, walks and plays with his Beagle dog Beethoven and in particular spending time with his wife Elka, who runs his medical practice as office manager.
